MTech Fuel Saver - Does It Work?

MTech Fuel SaverAs the price of gas continues its dizzying spiral upwards, snake oil salesmen come out of the woodwork in droves. One fuel-saving product, however, has managed to distinguish itself from the pack. It's called the MTech Fuel Saver and it installs in about 5 minutes followed by a 35-minute activation procedure.

At All Jap. Cars, we are testing a unit on an 18-month old 2006 Pontiac Vibe with a little over 30,000 miles. The car does a mix of street and highway driving in South Florida, averaging a little over 30 mpg. A log is kept of every fill up with a record of the number of gallons and number of miles on the trip meter.

MTech Fuel Saver and 2006 Pontiac VibeInstallation is quick. Three little canisters, about the size of a small thumb, are placed in the air filter, on the radiator hose and in the fuel tank. The instructions warn of the presence of an anti-siphon device that might prevent the fuel tank canister from getting into the fuel tank, but we tested it and determined that we could just drop it in.

No other changes were made to the car. The air filter should have been changed, but it was kept in so that the only variable would be the MTech Fuel Saver.

Since the fuel tank was nearly full, we will have to wait for the next tank of gas to begin testing because the activation process requires the engine to be run in neutral for 5 minutes at 50%-60% of maximum rpm.

Using some fancy chemistry, the device claims to change the arrangement of the gasoline molecules. This rearrangement is supposed to result in a more even burn, thus delivering either more miles per gallon or more horsepower, depending on the nature of the driving.
